Three of us from the Gay Vantage team were invited out to the Metromix party last night for The Real World DC premiere. It was held at Blackfinn Inn, just a few blocks from the White House.

[With the Obama family in Hawaii on vacation, we contemplated asking if we could use Obama’s parking spot since he obviously didn’t need it. DC parking is a nightmare.]

If we would have been naïve enough to believe some of the blogs covering the filming of The Real World DC, we would have expected picket lines outside of the event. There were more than a few people upset with the show’s cameras and notoriously rowdy cast (at least in seasons past) invading the nation’s capital and they were quite vocal about it. Or, maybe they were just upset that MTV aired the first reality show, which in turn spawned endless reality TV programming.

We were shocked at how packed the event was! The cast was in the back corner and it took some time to navigate to them. To say they were surrounded would be an understatement. We tried getting some photos of them but eventually gave up.

It got to be hot so the three of us stepped outside. While out there, the rest of the media at the event slowly joined us. It was time for the red carpet event with lots of photos and we shot the video below. The perfect timing was entirely accidental. Listen closely for the hilarious Jersey Shore questions and answers.

Having gone from hot to cold, we sought out heat again and made our way to the now abandoned back corner. It was a few minutes until ten and the premiere was about the start. We figured the cast would be catching it somewhere else, but they came back to the corner. We ended up chatting them up and sitting with them while they watched the premiere. Luckily, we had a great angle that allowed us to watch their reactions to seeing themselves on TV for the first time.

To be honest, the three of us that went have not watched The Real World for more than a few seasons. However, with DC being our hometown, we were excited about this season because it is always a fun game to try to spot places you recognize.

Now that we have met the cast, we are excited to watch the entire season for more than the scenery. The cast members we met are extremely fun, friendly and not the least bit full of themselves. We are only one episode in, but filming has already wrapped and if there is any bad blood between the cast, it was not evident last night. Then again, they have not had a chance to see how they are edited, so maybe some dirt will come out later!

After the premiere, the party moved over to Halo, a gay club. Scheduled to appear at Halo was Mike Manning, the extremely hot bi cast member. Not wanting the night to end just yet, the girl cast members from the premiere party hopped over to help Mike host a fun party.

Sadly, we were not able to grab photos or videos of the festivities at Halo [yes, we realize the irony of us covering LGBT news and events but not getting video or photos of this – sorry!], but I was able to lift one from Chris Wiggin’s Facebook. Chris co-hosted both parties, is the guy behind the Facebook page setup to track the filming and the RealWorldDCNewz Twitter account. He is also the cutie on the right in this photo.

If you didn’t catch the premiere last night on MTV at 10 PM ET, they will probably re-broadcast it what will seem like hundreds of times and you can watch it going forward on Wednesday’s at 10 PM ET.

Just pulled this off Mike’s Twitter.  MAJOR HOTTIE ALERT!  Just posting because he is so easy to look at.  And listen to.  And he’s smart.  Not only do I believe in gay marriage, I’d also be willing to believe in polygamy if Mike would move in with us.  Follow him.

Update: Washington Post is reporting 1.9 million viewers for the new season.  While not the 4+ million numbers it got during its heyday, it had significantly more than the last season, Cancun, with 1.4 million, the lowest in the series history.  Good start!
