Salt Lake City has elected Stan Penfold, and openly gay man, to serve on its city council. This is a progressive move on Salt Lake City’s part and Mr. Penfold is thought to be the councils first openly gay member.
He does not plan on becoming a lightening rod for gay rights issues but will rather focus on grassroots efforts such as affordable housing and improving quality of life in the neighborhoods he represents.
Growing up as a Mormon in California, Mr. Penfold moved to Utah 30 years ago and has served as the executive director of the Utah AIDS Foundation over the last decade.
