We hope that a new movement underway in California to ban divorce is successful.
John Marcotte, a Sacramento web designer, hopes to get divorce banned in California. He is pushing for this in response to to Prop 8 and hopes to get it on the ballot next year.
Of course, it is only wishful thinking. Even if it ends up on the ballot, enough people would have to vote for it to make it law. We all know that will never happen. More than anything, we think that its a brilliant PR move at best. People get all worked up about gays getting married but can’t seem to stay married themselves.
The best part?! He’s straight and has kids!
“Since California has decided to protect traditional marriage, I think it would be hypocritical of us not to sacrifice some of our own rights to protect traditional marriage even more,” the 38-year-old married father of two said.
To do this, he needs 694,354 valid signatures by March 22nd.
Only a few countries ban divorce. The Roman Catholic Church bans them, but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone from getting them.
Join the cause at rescuemarriage.org. The law will never get passed, but we should try to get it on the ballot to at least call attention to the hypocrisy!
