On January 21st we reported on the attack against same-sex marriage in Maryland by Delegate Emmett Burns.
On Thursday, more than 50 LGBT folks, their families and supporters arrived at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, MD to demonstrate against Maryland House Bill 90, which if passed would deny recognition to same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions (like neighboring Washington DC) where such unions are permitted.
Delegate Burns testified that “same-sex marriage is against the natural order.” In response to that, Delegate Mizeur, who is an out lesbian, spoke of how her and her wife desire to have their legal marriage recognized in their home state.
The turnout in support of recognition of same-sex marriage was much larger than those opposed.
The battle is not over. Monday, February 8, 2010 is lobby day. Visit here to register.
