Adam Candeub and Mae Kuykendall, legal researchers and professors at Michigan State University, think that the four states that allow gay marriage should offer up marriage license online.
With an e-marriage, same-sex couples from anywhere could log-on, download a marriage license and then have the ceremony with friends and family in their hometown. This would solve a problem that many same-sex couples have when they get married; where to have their ceremony and where to have their wedding. Then, if they do them in two separate places on two separate days, when is their anniversary?
Some catering to weddings in the states where gay marriage is legal think it is a horrible idea. One such person is Christopher Diebel, who founded MyIowaGayWedding.com. With gay marriage estimated to bring $106 million in new revenue to Iowa over the next three years, he questions why a politician would ever vote to take that money out of the state economy.
Although it is a great idea, execution may prove to be more difficult.
