The Catholic Church, who once had the audacity to use the silly logo to the right for a youth program [ed. note: you can't make the stuff up -- and they wonder why there is such rampant child sexual abuse within the organization], is to cut off the services it provides to the Washington DC government and its citizens.
Why would they dare cut off support to the disadvantaged who so desperately need it? The answer is because the DC Council wants to extend civil rights to gay people that includes prohibiting churches from discriminating against them.
What kind of money are we talking about? The church boasts that it contributes ten million dollars a year towards social services. In a way though, it is a mutually beneficial relationship, as the government gives the church $8.2 million a year in contracts. This means the church actually contributes a lot less than it brags about. Some would call that lying and lying goes against God’s word. The government shot back by saying that the church is not “an indispensable component of [the city's] social services infrastructure.”
Despite the treat, the Washington DC City Council is expected to pass the bill next month. If need be, the city government will toss its contracts to another organization — one that actually cares about people and believes in treating everyone equally.
